JEWELRY REPAIR AND RESTORATION

Jewelry, although made of precious metals, is delicate and requires proper care to maintain its shine and beauty. Check out our tips on how to care for jewelry:

  1. Jewellery should be removed when sleeping and when performing heavy work such as cleaning, gardening or mechanical work. Avoid mechanical damage such as scratching or bending delicate items, especially in the case of "blown" (hollow) products and jewellery with a rigid weave.
  2. Jewellery should not come into contact with perfumes, creams or detergents, as they can damage its surface, weakening the solder and causing darkening.
  3. To maintain its shine, jewelry can be cleaned using special products available on the market. Before using a cleaner, gently wash the surface of the jewelry with a mild liquid soap, rinse with water and dry. Make sure the jewelry is completely degreased before immersing it in the cleaning solution. Silver can be cleaned in a few seconds, but avoid this method for jewelry with delicate stones that may be damaged.
  4. Cleaners will remove the dark coating, but they will not polish the jewelry. Use special cloths designed for jewelry when polishing. Decorations such as gold plating or rhodium plating can wear off over time, and replacing them can be expensive and involve loss of gold.
  5. Store unworn jewelry separately, preferably in boxes lined with soft material. Store silver in zip-lock bags to limit air access and prevent tarnishing.
  6. Regularly examine your jewelry, especially the moving parts, to avoid losing worn parts. Every few months, it is a good idea to take your jewelry to a jeweler for professional cleaning and possible repairs.
  7. Professional cleaning and inspection of your jewellery can significantly improve its aesthetics and comfort of use, and can also help prevent more serious damage.
